  • After six days of memorial services in 5 different cities, Rep. John Lewis was finally laid to rest in his home state of Georgia.
  • Former president Barack Obama delivered the eulogy. He also used the moment as an opportunity to get people to do the very thing John Lewis fought tirelessly for-to vote.
  • Barack Obama said, those in power are doing their darndest to discourage people from voting by closing polling locations, targeting minorities and students with restrictive ID laws and attacking our voting rights with surgical precision. Even undermining the Postal Service in their run-up to an election that is going to be dependent on mail-in ballots so people don't get sick.
  • He also spoke about automatic voter registration including for former inmates, election day being a holiday and residents of Washington DC and Puerto Rico receiving equal representation in government.
  • The funeral was attended by former presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton who also spoke. Former president Jimmy Carter sent a written letter.
  • Are you or someone you know not planning on voting? Why?
