T.I. Helps Georgia Church Bail Out 23 Nonviolent Offenders For Easter

T.I. spent a portion of his Easter Sunday helping bail out 23 nonviolent offenders.

According to Atlanta's Fox 5, the 38-year-old rapper joined forces with New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star Scrapp Deleon to raise $120,000 to bail out 16 men and seven women just in time to enjoy the holiday with their family and friends. While the church's goal was initially $40,000, with the help of Tip, they reached $120K by the end of lent, enabling them to bring home more individuals than they originally planned.

Following their release, the beneficiaries were enrolled in a program that connects them to a mentor for weekly meetings. Additionally, a portion of the donations was put toward college savings for the beneficiaries’ children, Fox 5 reports. "For people to just reach out, willing to help out of the blue, them not knowing you from nobody...that's a blessing," Tyron Pollard, one of those bailed out under the program, told the news outlet, per The Hill. "I was doing drugs before I got locked up … but I don't want to do nothing but do right and strive to be a model citizen for my kids."

Senior pastor Dr. Jamal Bryant also spoke to the news outlet and spoke of how grateful the recipients were for their release. "It's almost like finally meeting the good Samaritan – somebody who you don't know that you didn't see coming," Dr. Bryant said, according to Fox 5. "They're appreciative to be able to press the refresh button."
