Lil Nas X,Lizzo,Beyonce and Rihanna and TV shows Black-ish and Power were some of the big winners at the51st NAACP Image Awards on Saturday night.
Highlights included Rihanna using her President’s Award acceptance speech to call for solidarity from people of all races against police brutality.
Beyonce and her daughter Blue Ivy shared a win for “Brown Skin Girl” off theThe Lion King: The Gift for Outtanding Duo, Group or Collaboration. Blue’s grandma,Tina Knowles Lawson, called her, “The youngest artist to win a major award… Grandma is so proud of you. Eight years old!! You are giving all the beautiful little brown girls a voice.”
Black-ish actress Marsai Martin picked up awards for her acting in the ABC series as well as the movieLittle.
50 Cent also enjoyed a win, for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series. He celebrated the accolade on Instagram where he wrote, “Hard work beats talent, when talent isn’t working. You may be gifted but you don’t want it as bad as me. LoL.”
