Cardi B, Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar and more won big at the fifth annual iHeartRadio Music Awards (March 11). It was a show to remember, hosted by Hailey Baldwin and DJ Khaled, with unforgettable live performances from Ed Sheeran, Eminem featuring Kehlani, Bon Jovi, Maroon 5, Camila Cabello, Charlie Puth, and N.E.R.D and G-Eazy.
Year after year, the iHeartRadio Music Awards shines the spotlight on a multitude of genres, and it was clear that plenty of rappers dominated this year's categories. Among this year's big winners were Bardi, K. Dot, Chance, Bruno Mars, DJ Khaled and more.
Hip-Hop Song of the Year went to Khaled's mega collaboration, "Wild Thoughts" featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller. The song was nominated alongside other rap hits including Migos' "Bad and Boujee" featuring Lil Uzi Vert, Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow," Kendrick Lamar's "HUMBLE." and Post Malone's "Rockstar."
Even though she lost out on that title, Bardi took home the award for Best New Artist of the Year. She said of her win: "I want to thank my haters, too, because [laughs] they be downloading my stuff, so they can hear it and talk crap about it but it benefits me." She also made headlines for revealing that she plans on releasing her debut album in April.
And rounding out the hip-hop and R&B categories this year, was Bruno Mars, who took home the award for R&B Artist of the Year. Mars was nominated alongside Childish Gambino, Khalid, Rihanna, and The Weeknd.
Additionally, R&B Album of the Year went to Khalid for his record, American Teen. The album was recently certified platinum in October after the release of three singles: "Location," "Saved" and "Young Dumb & Broke." "I want to thank my friends, my family, and fans ... my loved ones. Shout out to my dog Roxy. I'll see you later on today," he told JoJo Wright on the red carpet. "For all the dreamers, keep dreaming. Two years ago, I would have never imagined myself being in this position right now and luckily I am and I am having the time of my life, so thank you guys so much."
