Nandi Bushell has already proved she's a bona fide rock star. Aside from nailing covers in subgenres from alternative to metal, she's also released her own original music and beat Dave Grohl in a drum battle. All at the tender age of 10 years old.
Now, she's stepping out of her genre of choice to prove she can slay a hip hop song, too. On Wednesday (February 17), Bushell shared a drum cover of Queen Latifah's 1989 hit "Ladies First."
"Hey @questlove, I just watched HipHop songs that shook American [sic] and saw the episode about @queenlatifah and the song ‘Ladies First,’" the young prodigy wrote in an Instagram post. "It’s a really powerful song. I was born in South Africa. I had fun jamming over the tune. Thank you @dianegoldie for making me this incredible jacket." (The jacket really is incredible.)

This is Bushell's fifth cover of 2021. So far, she's learned about Britpop with a cover of Blur's "Song 2," went through an " emo phase" with a cover of My Chemical Romance's "Welcome To The Black Parade," dedicated a cover of The Who's "My Generation" to the late, great Keith Moon, and created a loop of drums, guitar, bass, and the iconic "ahh-aah" vocals of Led Zeppelin's "The Immigrant Song" to celebrate Jimmy Page's birthday. Not too shabby, considering we're only six weeks into the year.
